Sunrise and the Sun

The apparent rising of the sun above the horizon.

Without the Sun’s heat and light, the Earth would be a lifeless ball of ice-coated rock. The Sunwarms our seas, stirs our atmosphere, generates our weather patterns, and gives energy to the growing green plants that provide the food and oxygen for life on Earth.

The Sun symbolizes the supreme cosmic power- the life force, that enables all things to thrive and grow. In some cultures, the Sun is the Universal Father.

  • Twilight, the period in the morning during which the sky is brightening, but the Sun is not yet visible. The beginning of morning twilight is called astronomical dawn.
  • The period after the Sun rises during which striking colors and atmospheric effects are still seen.[2]
